Kam Yan

Kam Yan is a graduate of Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. He started work in various hospitals and has been in private practice for the last 25 years. He is also a fully licensed Traditional Acupuncturist of BC. He is an IMS Instructor in Hong Kong and at ISTOP. He has also an Honorary Fellowship at ISTOP.

His past achievements include a being speaker at the International Congress of Physiotherapy in 1972; at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association; at UBC on non-needle acupuncture, as well as at the Beijing University of China, School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion.

He is an experienced Physiotherapist and Acupuncturist dealing with acute and chronic pain.

His excellent clinical performance is reflected by the sustained satisfaction from his patients in relieving pain and restoring mobility.





Agnes Ku

AGNES KU, BSc PT (Hons), BSc Kin, UBC CGIMS

Agnes earned her Physiotherapy degree BScPT(Hons), graduating with high honours, was recipient of the Outstanding Academic Achievement for three consecutive years, the All-round Outstanding Student award and numerous scholarships including Post-entrance Scholarship. Agnes received in recognition of outstanding academic and non-academic performance in Faculty of Health & Social Sciences and has been placed on the Dean's Honours list.

Prior to that, Agnes obtained her first bachelors degree in Kinesiology (BScKin) and Certificate in Health and Fitness Studies. Her past professional work experiences include Curtin University Physiotherapy Clinic in Perth, Australia as well as various hospitals and clinics in Hong Kong. Agnes served as a physiotherapist during the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008 and was recruited to be part of the medical team. She also volunteered during Vancouver Winter Olympics and Para-Olympic Games, Oxfam Trailwalker 2006, The Ride to Conquer Cancer 2011, Surrey Summer BC Games 2012, World Cup fencing BC 2013, Vancouver Men's epee Grand Prix 2014 and Peter Bakonyi World Cup 2016.

Agnes employs a philosophy of care taking into holistic approach combining Western and Eastern points of view. She utilizes manual therapy, acupuncture, Gunn IMS dry needling, myofascial/craniosacral/visceral release, breathing techniques, pelvic floor control (part of the core muscles), motor pattern training, taping and therapeutic exercises to help patients restore optimal function.





David Park

DAVID PARK, Registered Physiotherapist, MPT, ACC

David Park obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at UBC, and afterwards, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Master of Physical Therapy degree, and primarily worked at private clinics and long term care homes. He attained Acupuncture Canada Certification, and uses acupuncture as part of his treatment in addition to manual therapy, exercise prescription, modalities, and education. David is originally from South Korea and has travelled to several other countries. He also enjoys playing soccer, badminton, table tennis, and hiking as well as spending time with his wife and a daughter.





Charmaine To

CHARMAINE TO, Registered Physiotherapist, RMT

Charmaine started her career in healthcare as a Registered Massage Therapist graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, B.C. in 1990. She then continued her studies and graduated as Registered Physiotherapist in 1994 from the University of British Columbia. Presently, she is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. (CMTBC) as well as with the College of Physical Therapy of British Columbia (CPTBC). She has over 20 years of experience in orthopaedics working in private practice dedicated to the treatment of MVA's, peripheral joints, joint replacements, sports and work-related injuries. She also holds a certificate from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada in 1999 and as well as a certificate from the Chan Gunn IMS in 2003 (Intramuscular Stimulation) or dry needling for the treatment of neuropathic pain. Charmaine has a passion for lifelong learning and has completed multiple certificates in different areas of orthopaedics, exercise therapy and acupuncture.

In addition, Charmaine has special interests in orphopaedics and all musculoskeletal dysfunction, post MVA soft tissue injuries, repetitive strain injuries, Frozen Shoulder Syndrome, acupuncture, vestibular rehabilitation and the "Dizzy" client, as well as abdominal massage for Women's Health

Charmaine treats injuries with an eclectic approach combined with exercise therapy and postural correction.





Allan Lam

ALLAN C.P. LAM, MD, RAc, CGIMS

Dr. Allan Lam joined CHANGEpain in May 2013 as a GUNN IMS Practitioner.

Dr. Allan Lam obtained his medical degree from the University of Toronto. He holds an Advance Certificate in Acupuncture & Moxibustion from the University of Traditional Medicine in Shanghai, China and a Bachelor in Science from McMaster University.

In 1997 Dr. Allan Lam studied, learned and practiced Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) under the mentorship of Dr. Gunn, the founder of IMS. He was appointed the Clinical Director at the Institute for the Study & Treatment of Pain (ISTOP) in 1998 and was Awarded Honorary Fellowship in IMS, in recognition of extensive knowledge, outstanding contribution and expert teaching abilities in IMS. He also develops and teaches IMS courses offered by ISTOP.

In 2004, in Lima, Peru, Dr. Allan Lam was invited as a speaker at the II Congreso Latinoamericano del Dolor, V Congreso Peruano del Dolor and Capitulo Peruo de la International Association for the Study of Pain – IASP on the topic of: Segmental Nature of Neuropathic Pain. Furthermore, in 2005 he was an invited speaker at the International Symposium on Techniques and Clinical Applications of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Beijing, China on the topic of: Neuropathic Pain, treating it with Intramuscular Stimulation (An Anatomic and Physiological Approach).

Dr. Allan Lam has also published Treating Whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) with Intramuscular Stimulation (A retrospective review of 43 patients with long term follow up) Journal of Musculoskeletal PainVol. 9 (2) 2001 and translated Dr. Gunn’s Book “The Gunn Approach to the treatment of Chronic Pain, IMS for Myofascial Pain of Radiculopathic Origin.”





Alyssa Mendoza

ALYSSA MENDOZA, Registered Acupuncturist

Alyssa Mendoza is a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac.) who completed the Traditional Chinese Medicine- Acupuncture Diploma (TCM-AD) program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2018, with over 2000 hours of extensive education and clinical experience in the duration of the program. She is a registered member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturist of British Columbia (CTCMA) upon her completion of her national registration exam and Pan-Canadian licensing exam for acupuncture practitioners.

Moreover, she is also a member of the British Columbia Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Practitioners (ATCMA). She is one of the acupuncturists providing treatments at the mobile student clinic in Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Langley campus.

Her treatment modalities include acupuncture, acupressure tuina and cupping therapy. She was able to work in various clinic with hands on treatment on conditions such as back, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, arthritis, headaches and migraines. In addition, she can aid with reproductive health issues on infertility, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and impotency. With her techniques, she also helps to relieve stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Furthermore, she can use her techniques to alleviate digestive issues including constipation, diarrhea, bloating, stomach cramps, morning sickness, nausea and vomiting. She loves to see that her patients are feeling good and always follow up on each patient’s improvement. Feedback for her is very important and she adjusts her treatments based on her patient’s needs.





Bryan Quan

BRYAN QUAN, Registered Kinesiologist, BCAK
Kinesiologist

Bryan Quan is a graduate of Exercise Science Program from the University of British Columbia, and is Registered Practicing Member of the British Columbia Association for Kinesiologists. He began work in various clinics since 2004 and has been in private practice for the last 5 years.

He is an experienced Kinesiologist who is able to design individually tailored exercise programs to improve strength and mobility of the clients to overcome injuries and achieve the fitness goals. Emphasis is placed on education so the client may continue the program independently; further improving physical fitness and returning to pre-injury lifestyle.

He is able to provide services in English and Cantonese.
